How the World Economic Forum is getting 10+ Million educational short-form content views per month.
Their Instagram account shows the efficacy of the trendy short format and demonstrates that even serious, information-rich content can perform well. It doesn’t always have to be that other funny cat video :).
The topics are very broad: from nuclear fusion to the increasing price of chocolate. So how are they doing it? Here are my 3 take aways from their strategy that you can implement in your educational short-form content:
1. Keep it concise.
Get to the point quickly and focus on one key message per video. The first few seconds are very important to get the viewers attention. The topic of the video should be clear within the first 3 seconds. The World Economic Forum is achieving this by putting the title on screen in the first second, with appropriate footage.
2. Use visuals.
Of course, short-form content without visuals is just not appealing. Make use of graphics, animations or footage to grab the viewers attention. The World Economic Forum even shows that you perfectly can use stock footage to support your message in a visual way. And the rise of generative text to video AI models will only make this easier in the future. So no excuses!
3. Show numbers.
If you take a quick look at their content, you’ll immediately see that the World Economic Forum uses numbers in almost every video. Use them to grab attention and persuade your audience. However, it's important to present the numbers in an interesting and understandable way. Don’t just put a number out there without any meaning or explanation.
